Who We Are & What We Do

Lex is the only legal experiential education program that is truly tailored for pre-law students in and surrounding the college years. Our team has run study abroad programs for 15+ years, and pre-law specific programs for over 6 years. Lex alumni, after participating in Lex and graduating from college, have gone on to attend most law schools in the U.S., including most of the top 20 U.S. JD programs. We operate short-term programs (1-9 weeks) over school breaks, aimed at U.S. undergraduates, and taking place primarily in the U.S. and Europe. Lex programs allow students to gain relevant study abroad experience, understand the life of a lawyer, and stand out on law school applications.

Our Mission

We help build a world where legal professionals love their jobs. We do this via programs that help put the right people in the legal field and help these people thrive in their field.

Lex helps at different stages of the pre-law journey, makes students more competitive to schools and provides clarity about their career choice. Where does your student fall in the below matrix?

Our Story

The Lex Fellowship was founded in in the Washington, D.C. area by a team that has run study abroad programs for 15+ years, and now pre-law specific programs for 6+ years. The first programs took place in Spain, and program locations have expanded to Italy, the United Kingdom, Washington, D.C., other top European destinations and beyond. Lex has grown to be the global leader in pre-law experiential education (and study abroad) in and surrounding the college years. Our alumni attend many of the top U.S. law schools.

Our Alumni Enter Great Law Schools

PhD-Authored Study Shows Lex Alumni Progress on The Competencies that Law Schools Seek

In a survey of a large group of Lex alumni, 81% of them believed they had progressed on the American Bar Association Core Competencies for Entering Law Students, which are the traits that law schools look for when making admissions decisions (view study data). These traits include adapting to stressful circumstances, interacting with people from diverse backgrounds, and more.

Every Lex Program Has a Dedicated Legal Associate, Who Uses Their U.S. JD Background to Guide Students

Each Lex program has a dedicated Legal Associate, who is someone from a U.S. J.D. background, responsible for giving ongoing legal training sessions to the program participants.

Alumni Testimonials

Elena S. | Cornell University Law School

“I truly do not think I would have gotten into Cornell without Lex. The time spent in Madrid with the Lex Fellowship allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of the law and everything surrounding it before I even entered law school.”

Camille B. | Harvard Law School

“By having that experience on my resume, Lex helped me get a paralegal job that subsequently helped me get into Harvard Law School.

Connor W. | Washington U. in St. Louis School of Law

“Being in the law firms has been incredible. Sitting in their conference rooms and learning from the attorneys has been so impactful compared to making copies or getting coffee like you would in a typical internship. I know exactly what I want to do with my future because of this Fellowship.”

Meet one of our past Site Managers, Grace!

How do the Fellows get around in the city?

Transportation from the housing to the firm sites and the weekend excursions is included in the program fee. A Lex staff member will be with the Fellows for those trips, and the group will travel as a cohort. It is most likely that a local transit pass will be purchased for the duration of the program, which will allow your child to have transit access for their free time as well. The Site Manager will provide safety tips and suggestions for any city travel that is not part of our programming.

Who should I get in touch with if there is a problem during the program?

The Site Manager will be your best point of contact, and you and your child will have their contact information before the Fellowship begins. We will also provide you with an emergency line that you can access if needed.

Who is onsite to help the Fellows?

The Site Manager (see above) is the main point of contact for safety and logistics questions from the Fellows. We have a network of international staff that supervise and support our Site Managers, who provide additional resources and assistance as necessary.

What is a Site Manager?

A Site Manager is essentially like an RA on college campuses. I’m with the students everyday, making sure they get around the city and to Lex events safely and on time. I arrange meals and excursions and, most importantly, am available 24/7 to the students if any safety concerns arise while on program.

What were the highlights of your experience as an SM?

I loved seeing the students grow in their confidence throughout the program. It’s really rewarding to watch as what we teach them on program begins to sink in and affect how they approach the law school application process and beyond.

How often were you interacting with the Fellows?

I met the Fellows virtually before the program began to introduce myself and to answer any questions they may have remaining before they arrive to their program city. Once they arrived, I saw them everyday of the program and was available to them 24/7.
